Iguazú Falls is one of the few places in the world that actually lives up to expectations — and then exceeds them.
Nearly 300 falls plunge along a front almost three kilometres wide on the border between Argentina and Brazil. Argentina takes you out onto walkways right beside the rushing water, close enough to get drenched. Brazil gives you the panoramic view — the entire span of the falls at once, often with rainbows in the spray.
In the forest around the falls, toucans, parrots and coatis move along the trails with little regard for visitors. The area is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on both sides of the border and is one of South America's most biodiverse regions.
Iguazú combines naturally with Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro or other destinations and is an excellent part of a multi-stop trip.
